Healthy Tanning:
We all know that the sun is your skin's number #1 enemy. But, shunning it entirely has several negative aspects including: pallid skin, loss of vitamin D, and translucent skin (visible appearance of blood vessels and imperfections). Whether you are at the beach, gardening or just going for a walk, when spending time in the sunlight always remember to wear sunscreen.
Great Tip: Exfoliating your skin before getting color will help your tan look it's best and last the longest. Microdermabrasion, a chemical peel, and frequent facials are all great ways to exfoliate and boost your skin's complexion on their own and before getting color. These are also great techniques that help sunless tanners keep their faux tans looking natural and long lasting.
Sun Protection:
If you know that you are going to be spending a lot of time outside, using a makeup with SPF alone will not be enough to protect your skin. It is important to use a day SPF moisturizer before your makeup and then apply makeup with UVA and UVB coverage (to double your protection). Do not forget to protect your skin's high risk areas such as the ears, eyelids, lips, and the backs of your hands and neck. These areas are easy to miss and they need more attention than the face because they do not contain oil glands to protect them. Applying a high SPF to these areas is ideal. And remember, if you are in the sun for many hours during the day don't forget to reapply your SPF. One application will not protect you the entire day.
